Qatar's watchdog the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Regulatory Authority has issued a statement, according to which any crypto-related services are illegal from now on, International Investment has learned.
In the statement, the watchdog said that currently digital asset services should not be conducted "in or from the QFC."
The newly-introduced regulation also prohibits any asset that "acts as a substitute for currency, that can be digitally traded or transferred and can be used for payment or investment purposes."
However, the ban will not extend to digital forms of securities or other financial instruments that are regulated by the watchdog.
Previously iHodl reported that Uzbekistan legislatively banned the use of cryptocurrency as a mean of payment.
