Main page News, Ethereum, Hard Fork

The developers of the Ethereum Foundation have just unveiled new details on Muir Glacier, ETH's upcoming hard fork.

They have reported that it will be implemented on January 1, 2020, at block number 9,200,000.

Muir Glacier aims to delay the implementation of the difficulty bomb by 4 million blocks, that is to say, about 1.7 years. The difficulty bomb pretends to control the complexity of ETH mining using a complex algorithm to increase its value every 100,000 blocks.

Ethereum node operators must update their software before December 30.

One of the main objectives of this update is to persuade those miners who are still considering the possibility of using the proof-of-work consensus algorithm after the network switches to proof-of-stake (PoS).

According to the announcement, those users who use crypto exchanges, web wallet services, mobile wallet services or hardware wallets do not need to take additional steps unless they are requested to do so.
