China's army is studying the possibility of implementing a reward system based on blockchain tech to manage personal data and incentivize its members, the Global Times has reported today citing a daily report by the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
According to the news source, blockchain could be used to store data on military personnel, such as basic information, professional path and missions completed.
Some of this data can be used to give tokens to soldiers for their performance evaluations. For example, after a soldier's data has been stored, if he/she is able to improve his/her performance, he/she will receive tokens. These tokens can then be exchanged for different rewards that have not been specified yet.
According to the document:
"To award or deduct tokens according to one’s daily performance and thus generate an objective assessment would effectively energize the human resource management."
Simply put, this is a rewards and punishments system. If the military achieve certain goals, they will receive tokens, while if they don't succeed, they will be deducted.
The PLA has also said this tech could be used for other purposes, such as storing confidential data with higher-level encryption.
