LiquidApps has confirmed it’s launching the first-ever DAPP Network Hackathon. The hackathon will be open to developers around the globe, with the opportunity to win a prize from a pool worth $50,000. It will take place on November 17-24 and is currently open for registration.

Most hackathons take place at a physical location, often tagged on to the beginning or end of a developer conference or event. However, LiquidApps is taking the innovative step of opening up its hackathon to developers all over the world by conducting it online. The company states in a blog post that it wants to ensure the entire LiquidApps community has an opportunity to participate, which prompted the decision to hold the hackathon as an online event. LiquidApps will open up a web platform where participants can register, form teams, and submit their projects remotely.

For anyone who prefers the traditional on-site format, LiquidApps is adopting a hybrid approach for its hackathon. Alongside the online event, the company is hosting an in-person DAPP Network Hackathon in its home city of Tel Aviv. Furthermore, it’s encouraging developers around the globe to assemble their local communities by hosting on-site hackathons in their own cities.

Hackathons are a massively popular way of bringing developers together around a problem or challenge and focusing attention on solving it in a short space of time. One of the biggest in the world is Odyssey, which this year attracted 1,500 attendees from 29 countries. It’s produced over 230 working prototypes over the last three years, over 30 percent of which are in ongoing development.

Rapidly Expanding Ecosystem

No doubt, LiquidApps is hoping to replicate Odyssey’s success with its global hackathon. However, it’s fair to say that the company has already made strides this year in developing out its platform since the launch in March. The DAPP Network operates a range of solutions designed to make decentralized applications (dApps) more accessible for users and developers alike.

The backbone of the network is what LiquidApps calls DAPP Service Providers (DSP), who can select from a range of features that they package up and sell to developers in return for DAPP tokens. Anyone can become a DSP, providing they meet the criteria for running an EOS node.

The first feature to go live was vRAM, state storage compatible with EOS RAM but offered limitlessly and far more cost-effectively. This was soon followed by LiquidAccounts, enabling developers to create free EOS accounts for their dApps requiring only a single simple logon.

In April, LiquidApps introduced two powerful features. Firstly, the ability to feed dApps with outside data with LiquidOracles, and secondly, interoperability between blockchains with LiquidLink.

Most recently, LiquidApps introduced vCPU as a complement to its vRAM offering. VCPU is a solution enabling horizontal scaling by allowing parallel processing.

At this pace of development, it seems inevitable that LiquidApps are working on more new features. However, if the DAPP Network Hackathon is a success, it’s likely to precipitate a slew of new dApps on the platform.

LiquidApps is also seeking experienced EOS developers to act as mentors to the teams participating in the hackathon. The company will be posting more information about the event on its blog in due course.
