Facebook Launches a Payment System

Facebook has just rolled out Facebook Pay, its new payment system, which according to the company will be available on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp. Facebook Pay users will be able to transfer money to friends, pay for products in the Marketplace, buy tickets for events, raise funds, make donations and make purchases in integrated games and apps.

The service will initially only be available to US-based Facebook and Messenger users. However, Facebook Pay will soon be launched in Instagram and WhatsApp and expanded to more countries.

Facebook Pay supports most major credit and debit cards as well as PayPal and Stripe. According to social network:

"The aim of Facebook Pay is to simplify payments through our apps for shopping, donating and sending money."

Facebook has highlighted Facebook Pay is totally independent from Calibra, Libra's wallet.
