Bitcoin derivatives trading platform Bakkt has announced it will launch a consumer app in the first half of next year.

As the official announcement says, the platform is focused on the development of the consumer app and merchant portal, as well as testing with its first partner — Starbucks.

"All of these efforts amount to supporting the flywheel that drives broader acceptance, which is at the core of our mission that we will continue to bring to reality in 2020," said Mike Blandina Bakkt CPO.

Thus Bakkt wants to simplify for consumers to discover and unlock the value of digital assets, "as well as ways in which they can transact or track them."

Earlier iHodl reported that Bakkt will launch the first regulated option contracts for bitcoin on December 9.
