The Android version of popular web browser Opera has just become the first browser to integrate direct bitcoin payments, the company announced yesterday in a press release.

According to the announcement, from now on, Android users will be able to send and receive BTC directly from Opera as well as make payments on e-commerce websites that accept bitcoin.

In addition, the browser has also incorporated the ability to add a bitcoin card and TRON to its integrated wallet so that users can track the currencies they hold.

Charles Hamel, head of the crypto department at Opera, said:

"We believe that opening our browser to more blockchains, including Bitcoin, is the logical next step to making our solution more relevant to anyone who has a Bitcoin crypto wallet and would like to do things with their cryptocurrencies beyond just keeping them in an account."

The beta version of this feature was rolled-out in summer, while the first crypto that could be purchased through the browser was ethereum, a functionality that has been active since February.

iHodl Spain reported in March Opera had released the iOS version of its web browser with an integrated crypto wallet.

The first news about Opera integrating a crypto wallet in the desktop version of its web browser appeared in August 2018.
