German politician serving as Federal Minister of Finance and Vice-Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for the creation of a digital euro coin, according to a local business news magazine WirtschaftsWoche.

Scholz believes such a payment system would be good for the Europe financial center and its integration "into the world financial system."

"We should not leave the field to China, Russia, the U.S. or any private providers," the Vice-Chancellor added.

Earlier iHodl reported that the second-largest in Germany and the ninth-largest in Europe stock exchange Börse Stuttgart started bitcoin trading for its clients.

In the meantime, Angela Merkel's government passed a law aimed at preventing private currencies like Libra from becoming an alternative to national currencies.
