Stablecoin issuer Tether is expecting a controversial and mercenary lawsuit in the upcoming future.

As the official statement, Tether disputes any findings and conclusions claimed by the unknown source. The study is reportedly based on "flawed assumptions, incomplete and cherry-picked data, and faulty methodology."

"We fully expect mercenary lawyers to use this deeply flawed paper to solicit plaintiffs for an opportunistic lawsuit, which may have been the true motive of the paper all along. In fact, we would not be surprised if just such a lawsuit will be filed imminently," Tether claims in its statement.

Earlier Bitfinex's main investor said that Tether plans to release a new version of the stablecoin USDT backed by a basket of commodities such as gold, oil and rubber.
