Apple's CEO Tim Cook has said the company is not considering the possibility of launching its own cryptocurrency, according to an interview with French newspaper Les Echos.
Cook literally said:
"I really think that a currency should stay in the hands of countries. I’m not comfortable with the idea of a private group setting up a competing currency."
Cook's statements come a month after Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay, said the company is watching cryptocurrencies and that they have long-term potential.
Cook added we elect our representatives to assume their governmental responsibilities, being national currencies one of them, so we do not want to leave such an important matter in the hands of private companies.
iHodl reported in July that Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, had launched a blockchain startup in Malta.
In June it was known that Apple had added support for cryptocurrencies and blockchain in its devices through the launch of CryptoKit.
