Israeli newspaper The Marker reported on September 19 that Facebook has just acquired Servicefriend, a startup specialized in chatbots, in order to develop a chatbot for Calibra's customer service.

Servicefriend works on the development of chatbots for messaging services able to mimic the intelligence, understanding and empathy of human beings. As a result, users who interact with these services do not even know if they are talking to a machine.

Facebook said on June 18, when it announced its Libra and Calibra project, that its goal was to provide access to financial services to unbanked people. According to the social network, Calibra will be available through a separate application as well as through WhatsApp and Messenger.

Servicefriend has announced on its official site:

"We are thrilled to share that Servicefriend is now moving to the next chapter of our exciting journey. Over the past four years, we managed to standout and build a great platform for brands to deliver excellent experiences at scale over WhatsApp and Messenger. Our mission to transform the way business interact with people and to let people communicate with businesses as they do with their friends has always been our raison d’etre."
