Popular Japanese messenger Line has received approval from Financial Services Agency (FSA) to operate as a cryptocurrency exchange, iHodl Russia reports.
The BitMAX trading platform will reportedly allow 80 million Line users in Japan to buy and sell cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin (EXANTE: BTC.EXANTE), ether (ETH), bitcoin cash (BCH), litecoin (LTC) and ripple (XRP).
According to the Line representative, the monthly audience of Line messenger is about 187 million people around the world.
Approximately 50 million registered to work with Line Pay, a mobile payment service.
Last July, Line launched the BITBOX, a cryptocurrency exchange in Singapore.
Earlier iHodl reported that Bitpoint, a popular Tokyo-based cryptocurrency exchange, ceased all its operations after being attacked by a group of hackers that have allegedly stolen around $32 million in XRP, bitcoin and other coins.
