William Turton, a Bloomberg Technology reporter who has recently attended the annual Billington Cyber Security Summit in Washington, has said on Twitter that the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) is working on the development of a quantum-resistant cryptocurrency:
"Anne Neuberger, Director of NSA's new Cybersecurity Directorate, says that the agency will propose hardware and software standards again. Also notes agency is working to build quantum resistant crypto."
In March 2018, The Intercept reported citing several documents provided by Edward Snowden that the NSA had been tracking bitcoin users since 2013 through a program code-named OAKSTAR.
In July it was known that the agency has decided to establish a cybersecurity department, which will start work on October 1. According to the NSA, it will focus on fighting threats to national security systems.
