According to the latest report published by the non-profit organization Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), terrorist groups like ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Hamas are using Telegram to raise funds in cryptocurrencies, Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) reported yesterday.

Cryptocurrencies, which allow users to execute monetary transactions anonymously (or almost), have become a perfect tool for criminals and terrorist groups, since they allow them to raise funds for their causes leaving no evidence of their actions.

According to the organization, the situation will get worse after the launch of Telegram's own blockchain (TON), as well as its native token (Gram), which should take place in October.

MEMRI has said that Hamas has used Telegram, Facebook and Twitter to ask its followers to provide funds in bitcoin.

The organization has contacted several Western government agencies, including the U.S., in order to share its findings so that they adopt the necessary measures. As a result, the U.S. Congress has asked Telegram founder Pavel Durov to take immediate action.
