Popular Russian instant messaging app Telegram has announced it plans to issue Gram, the platform's native token, ahead of October 31, the date in which it originally planned to launch them.

The company might be launching the first batch of its token within the next two months, The New York Times reported yesterday citing several sources familiar with the situation.

According to the company, Gram tokens will operate similarly to bitcoin, which means that Telegram will have no control over them, ensure this way the decentralization of the project.

Gram tokens went on sale last month on crypto exchange Liquid at a price 3 times higher than their ICO price.

Telegram held the ICO of its token last year, in which it attracted as much as $1.7B from several investors, including Benchmark and Sequoia Capital.
