Main page News, Altcoins, Litecoin

Litecoin's halving took place yesterday at block 1,680,000. From now on, miners who mine a block in the Litecoin network will receive a 12.5 LTC reward instead of the 25 LTC they had been receiving so far.

The next halving is expected to happen in four years (on August 2, 2023), and will reduce the miners' rewards to 6.25 LTC.

According to litecoinblockhalf, 75% of the altcoin's total supply has already been mined.

Cryptos' halvings are usually followed by an increase in their price, something that has happened many times in the past. For example, when litecoin's previous halving took place on August 25, 2015, the crypto's price skyrocketed by 400%. This time has not been an exception, since the crypto's price has jumped by 9.68% at 12:20 UTC time.

Litecoin's price registered a significant growth during the 1st semester of the year, jumping from $30 in January to $120 in June.
