One of Europe's leading airlines, Norwegian Air Shuttle, is working on solutions to purchase the air ticket with cryptocurrency, Norwegian media E24 reports.

The air company is also developing its own so-called Norwegian Block Exchange (NBX) cryptocurrency exchange.

The Founder and CEO of Norwegian Air Shuttle, Bjørn Kjos, says the company sees that there is a need for a serious marketplace where clients could buy and sell a cryptocurrency.

"We see that there is a need for a serious marketplace where one can, among other things, buy and sell cryptocurrency," said Kjos.

The launch of NBX is scheduled for August this year.

It's expected that NBX will integrate Norwegian Air’s current rewards program, so the company's clients could earn reward points by trading on the exchange.

Last year, the first airline blockchain loyalty scheme had been created by KPMG in cooperation with Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Microsoft.
