According to the Iranian government's Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, crypto mining was officially approved last Sunday by a special committee.

The country's government is currently trying to fit this new activity within its existing regulatory framework.

Abdolnaser Hemmati, governor of the Central Bank of Iran, has said:

"A mechanism to mine digital coins was approved by the government’s economic commission and will later be put to discussion at a cabinet meeting."

Ihodl Spain reported yesterday that the Economic Commission of Iran has recently decided on the electricity tariffs it will impose on crypto miners. It looks like these prices will be based on the tariffs charged on energy exports.

The country's government has been considering the possibility of approving (or not) cryptocurrencies for quite some time. Just a month ago it was reported that Iran had closed two mining rigs in the country, a news that contrasts with the recent approval of this activity.

Ihodl has also made reference to an statement by the country's deputy energy minister, Homayoun Haeri, who said in June that cryptocurrency miners should not enjoy any kind of discount on the electricity bill.

Although the country has taken a step forward in terms of mining, it does not seem it will change its position regarding the use of cryptocurrencies for domestic payments.
