On Friday, Italy has arrested Dmitry Vasilev, the former Head of Wex [formerly known as BTC-e] cryptocurrency exchange, BBC Russia reports.

At the moment of writing it's still unknown what is the reason for Vasilev's detention.

Last year, Binance froze wallets that received more than 93,000 ETH from two wallets indirectly linked to the WEX.

WEX is a successor to the defunct BTC-e exchange that inherited its infrastructure, didn't allow withdrawals for major cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ether since July 2018.

Previously, China's police department in Jiangsu Province confiscated approximately 4,000 rigs, that were used for bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin) mining after an abnormal electricity usage was reported by a local power company.
