The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has initiated investigation against BitMEX cryptocurrency exchange to find out whether BitMEX broke rules by allowing Americans to trade on the platform, Bloomberg reports.

An unknown BitMEX official declined to provide with comments citing that HDR Global Trading Limited, as the owner of BitMEX, as a matter of company policy, "does not comment on any media reports about inquiries or investigations by government agencies or regulators."

It's worth to mention that U.S. citizens are banned from BitMEX due to local laws in the U.S.

Earlier iHodl reported that BitMex tightened its Terms of Service policy, according to which, users from the United States of America, Québec (Canada), Cuba, Crimea and Sevastopol, Iran, Syria, North Korea and Sudan, or any other jurisdiction where the services offered by BitMEX are restricted, are prohibited from holding positions or entering into contracts at BitMEX.
