The U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase suffered yesterday a technical problem that caused both its website and API to go offline temporarily.
Representatives of the company reported that both the website, the API and its mobile apps went offline, however, they claim that the platform was still operating internally without any problem.
The most surprising thing is that right when the trading platform was offline, bitcoin lost $1,700 of its value in just 15 minutes, which spread panic in the market.
The largest cryptocurrency by market cap had been registering a double-digit growth all day, and it lost almost $2,000 in the blink of an eye.
The platform stopped working in mobile and desktop browsers at around 20:45 UTC. Bitcoin price, which had reached $13,900 during the day, dropped an hour later to $11,900.
