One of the largest Chinese blockchain developers, VeChain (VET) in coordination with Walmart China and PricewaterhouseCoopers will launch a joint blockchain-based platform to track food supply.
The so-called Walmart China Blockchain Traceability Platform has already tested over 20 product lines. It's expected that the platform will scale up to another 100 product lines by the end of 2019 with more than 10 product categories including fresh meat product, rice, mushrooms, cooking oil, etc.
VeChain offers blockchain technologies allowing trace various supply chains while customers can see detailed information, including the source of the scanned products and geographic location received by Walmart.
Amid news of the partnership with Walmart, VET sees a huge price growth. At press time, the asset is trading at $0,008 (+25,60%).
Previously Walmart Inc. joined a blockchain-focused pharmaceutical consortium called MediLedger to enhance its supply chain.
