TrendMicro, a popular cybersecurity firm, has identified a malware that infects Android devices to mine cryptocurrencies.
Apparently, the malware uses the Android Debug Bridge, a system designed to resolve application defects in most smartphones and tablets that work with Google's operating system, to infect the users' devices.
The malware has reportedly been detected in at least 21 countries, although it has mainly affected South Korean users.
Once the malware is successfully installed, it downloads 3 different miners into the device and activates the one that best suits the specific features of the smartphone or tablet depending on its processor, memory... in order to get the best results.
If the malware detects that the user already uses some mining system, it simply deactivates it.
The use of malware for crypto mining by stealing the users' computing power is quite common. This way, hackers are able to mine cryptos without the need to acquire the expensive hardware necessary to do so, and in addition, most times users are not aware of what is happening.
