According to a report published on June 6 by crypto research company Coinshares, 74% of bitcoin mining operations are carried out with sustainable energy.
One of the main arguments used by crypto critics to attack bitcoin has been that its mining process requires a large amount of energy. In order to extract a bitcoin or any other crypto, the miners' devices must solve very complex mathematical problems, and to do so they need a lot of electricity.
However, according to this report, the energy consumed by mining devices comes mostly (74%) from renewable energy sources, therefore, the impact of bitcoin mining on the environment is minimal, contrary to what its critics claim.
A very clear example is China, where most of the world's mining facilities are located. In this country, mining facilities operate almost exclusively with hydroelectric electricity, which is generated in specialized plants that use the water from torrential rains to produce energy.
The report says:
"We estimate that bitcoin mining is 74.1% renewable energy-driven, making it more renewable-driven than almost any other large-scale industry in the world."
