American multinational conglomerate holding company AT&T Inc. has become the very first big US wireless carrier to accept cryptocurrency bitcoin (BTC) for online phone bill payments, Engadget reports.

AT&T is a US-based multinational telecoms conglomerate. It’s the second largest mobile services provider and the leading provider of fixed phone services in the U.S.

According to Engadget, thanks to a bitcoin payment service provider BitPay, AT&T's clients can now cover their bill with bitcoin instead of conventional funds.

Last year, AT&T filed a patent which describes a system of monitoring a blockchain social history maps.

The system which is based on a distributed blockchain database can be used not only by the company but also by its users. For instance, it can monitor microculture transactions, by checking trends at a given time and place.
