Facebook Will Not Allow Marijuana Sales
Main page News, Facebook

Facebook's internal policy department has decided to keep the current ban on the sale of marijuana on the platform after months of discussing the issue, MarketWatch reported yesterday.

Facebook currently allows the promotion of cannabis-related products as well as the sale of cannabis seeds and smoking accessories. However, the direct sale of marijuana was not allowed.

Some important actors in the industry have shared their rejection to Facebook's decision. For example, cannabis producers think that the company's decision will negatively affect the development of the sector.

Facebook has been considering three potential amendments to its current cannabis sales policy over the last months:

  • The first one would allow the social network's users to sell weed directly to one another and buy it from recreational and medical weed shops in legal jurisdictions.
  • The second possibility would allow buying marijuana only from brick-and-mortar shops where weed is legal.
  • In the third option only stores involved with medical cannabis could sell weed.

However, Facebook has finally decided to keep its ban on the direct sale of marijuana.
