Elon Musk's The Boring Company, specialized in the construction of tunnels and infrastructures, has just signed its first commercial contract worth $48.7M to build an underground Loop system around the Las Vegas Convention Center, TechCrunch reported yesterday.

The project, known as Campus Wide People Mover (CWPM), is related to an expansion project for the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is expected to be completed by January 2021.

Once completed, the convention center will span about 0.8 square kilometers, and there will be around 3.2 kilometres between its furthest points and the center. For this reason, the people in charge of the centre have decided to look for a solution for the transport of people within the premises.

According to calculations, Elon Musk's company will spend around 1.2 million dollars on the construction of the tunnels during fiscal year 2019, 15 million in 2020 and 32.47 million in 2021.

The Boring Company's project includes the construction of two tunnels for vehicles and one for pedestrians. Three subway stations will also be built, as well as a system of elevators or escalators for passengers to access all stations.

Visitors will move between the different stations at high speeds in modified Tesla cars.
