Microsoft Corporation's market cap has exceeded $1 trillion for the first time in its history, Reuters reported making reference to the U.S. giant's latest financial report.
Microsoft has reported that during the first quarter of 2019, its revenues increased by 14% compared to the same period in 2018, reaching $30.6 billion. The performance of all business segments exceeded analysts' expectations. For example, Azure corporate cloud service registered an incredible 73% increase, while Office 365 grew by 30%.
Microsoft also believes revenues during the new fiscal year, which begins in July, will continue to grow at a double-digit rate.
Microsoft has become the third company to exceed a market cap of one billion, since Apple and Amazon overcame this mark last year.
Microsoft currently ranks first in the list of largest companies by market cap. Apple's current capitalization stays at 972,000 million dollars, Amazon's at 940,500 million, Alphabet's at 880,000, and Microsoft's reaches 990,870 million. The last time Microsoft became the most valuable company in the world was in 2002 (when its market capitalization exceeded $250 billion).
