The largest South Korea's telecom company KT has launched 5G blockchain-based brand "GiGA Chain," reports The Korea Times.

The new technology can enhance security level and help to protect from various hacker attacks on connected devices.

While the number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices are expected to grow to 30,000,000,000 by 2021 due to the enhanced connectivity of 5G, KT said blockchain technologies are essential to ensure the safety of the connected devices, highlight The Korea Times.

President of future platform business group at KT, Lee Dong-myeon, claims in the 5G era, a large number of IoT devices are expected to be used and many of them "are likely to be more vulnerable to cyberattacks."

"So we decided to come up with high assurance cybersecurity measures using our blockchain technology," he added.

Previously, KT Corporation, announced the development of its own cryptocurrency, called "K-Token."
