The popular crypto-tracking website CoinMarketCap (CMC) has just announced it plans to reorganize the way it classifies cryptocurrencies and exchanges metrics after an investigation carried out by Bitwise recently revealed that the trading volume of some of the platforms and coins included in the portal was fake, CMC confirmed yesterday.

CoinMarketCap is probably the most widely used service in the crypto industry to track relevant information about exchanges, Bitcoin as well as the rest of altcoins.

However, Bitwise published last week an investigation according to which the trading volumes displayed on the portal are completely fake, which leads investors to make wrong decisions based on inaccurate information.

As a result, CMC has decided to change how it calculates trading volumes.

Bitwise sent this information to U.S. regulators together with its request to issue its own Bitcoin ETF.
