The leader of OneCoin, a multibillion-dollar scam scheme involving the sale of a fraudulent crypto is arrested at Los Angeles International Airport, The Manhattan U.S. Attorney's Office states.
According to the announcement, the header of OneCoin, Konstantin Ignatov, is arrested on a wire fraud conspiracy charge stemming from his role as the leader of an international pyramid scheme that involved the marketing of a fraudulent crypto — OneCoin.
An Indictment charging also includes Konstantin’s sister, Ruja Ignatova – a founder and original leader of OneCoin.
Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman says as alleged, the defendants created a multibillion-dollar ‘cryptocurrency’ company based "completely on lies and deceit."
The Ignatovs are charged by Complaint with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Earlier, iHodl reported on OneCoin scheme after the scam was banned in Bulgaria when the Financial Supervision Commission published a message that OneCoin isn’t recognized as a financial instrument and is highly risky.
