The notorious JavaScript crypto miner for the Monero (XMR) blockchain, Coinhive, will discontinue its service on March 8, 2019, according to the official announcement.

The last Monero hard fork, which caused the drop in hash rate (over 50%) is considered to be as the main reason for the shutdown.

"It has been a blast working on this project over the past 18 months, but to be completely honest, it isn’t economically viable anymore," the announcement notes.

As it states, dashboards will still be accessible until April 30, 2019.

Last year, Brazil topped the list of countries with the highest number of reported cases related to cryptojacking via Coinhive.
