The fifth largest financial group in the world and the largest bank in Japan, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), has announced a partnership with Akamai Technologies, Inc. ("Akamai") to strengthen their strategic alliance towards the full-scale launch of a new blockchain-based payment network — Global Open Network, Inc.

According to the official announcement, the upcoming platform will offer "world-class speed and security." The expected launch date — the first half of 2020.

Earlier, Mizuho Bank, Japan’s second-largest bank announced it will issue its own stablecoin by March 2019.
