Popular publishing platform WordPress (WP) has announced founding for a new platform, Newspack by WordPress.com, that is aimed at small & medium-sized news businesses, the official announcement states.
Among the investors of the upcoming platform Google ($1.2 million), The Lenfest Institute for Journalism ($400,00), ConsenSys ($350,000), The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation ($250,000).
"With many local news organizations struggling to find sustainable models for journalism, we’re seeing a need for an inexpensive platform that provides the technology and support that lets news organizations build their businesses and focus on what they do best — providing critical reporting for their communities," the official announcement noted.
As it states, the new publishing constructor will have Civil’s Publisher as a preset plugin.
The representative of Civil says the plugin will also "act as a portal that will walk newsrooms through how to join the Civil Registry, the hub of community-vetted and -approved newsrooms."
Earlier, blockchain software company ConsenSys entered into the partnership with AMD in order to develop "optimized datacenter solutions for emerging blockchain workloads."
