Cryptocurrency exchange Cryptopia has suffered ‘significant losses’ due to the recent hacker attack, according to the official announcement on Twitter.

Cryptopia is the largest regulated cryptocurrency exchange in New Zealand.

According to the announcement, the exchange suffered a security breach which resulted in significant losses.

"Staff then notified and involved the appropriate Government Agencies, including NZ police and High Tech Crimes Unit who are jointly and actively investigating the matter as a major crime and they are assisting us with advice," the official statement noted.

It’s said that until the case has been carried out, the exchange will remain maintenance mode, with trading suspended.

Earlier, in November 2018, a group of unidentified hackers hijacked the official Twitter account of American retail giant Target in order to push malicious bitcoin giveaway links to its almost two million followers.
