Google has reportedly blacklisted expressions including the term “ethereum” on its advertising platform Google Ads. The initiative was first noticed by the startup Decenter.

Decenter tried to use the expressions “ethereum development services” and “ethereum security audits” in the platform — and got an error message in return.

The startup shared the obstacle with the Ethereum community on Reddit:

“Any of the keywords that contain ‘ethereum’ in our campaigns are no longer showing ads as of January 9th and are now reporting [an] [...] error.”

Google banned all crypto-related ads in June 2018, only to partially change its policy again in September, allowing some advertisement on its platform.

Is the tech giant looking to defend itself of advertisement promoting scams and fraudulent activities? Most likely yes. For how long now remains unclear.
