The developers of the anonymous token Beam discovered a critical vulnerability in their wallet Beam Wallet. Users were asked to immediately uninstall the app and download its corrected version from the official site.

"The vulnerability affects all previously released Beam Wallets both Desktop and CLI. So far, we are not aware of Beam’s users being affected by this vulnerability. We are working with various providers in the ecosystem to upgrade their systems," the official statement reports.

Developers say they discovered the software vulnerability independently. Chief Technical Officer Alex Romanov said that "the issue was already fixed" and that cryptocurrency miners & nodes are unaffected.

Beam token was launched on January 3. This is the first token using the Mimblewimble privacy protocol. The launch of another cryptocurrency on the same protocol — Grin — is scheduled for January 15, 2019.
