Ethereum (ETH/USD) has surpassed Ripple (XRP/USD) and has restored its place as the world’s second most valuable cryptocurrency by market capitalization, according to today’s data from Coinmarketcap.
After some weeks as the third largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum registered a significant increase in its price and its market cap surpassed Ripple’s. In fact, over the last month ETH’s price has risen around 80 percent, from $83 to $150, in a strong corrective rally regarding its deep decline in November — when it fell from $220 to $83.
Ethereum was, indeed, one of the best-performing cryptocurrencies in December — beating Bitcoin, Ripple and Bitcoin Cash. Experts point out its upcoming Constantinople fork, which might increase the demand for ETH, as one of the main reasons behind its surge.
At press time, ETH is being traded around $150 and registers growth of 10 percent.
