The cryptocurrencies increasing popularity over the last years has been closely followed by a proliferation of cybersecurity incidents. Hacking and ransomware attacks and phishing and mining malware have become real threats for both crypto traders and holders.

McAfee: Crypto Mining Malware Surged 4,000% This Year

And 2019 may bring new cybersecurity challenges to the ecosystem.

“All the evidence suggests that cyber-attackers are increasingly interested in cryptocurrencies [...] [and] in 2019 we predict a growing trend of cryptomining linked to IoT devices," — said Raj Samani, chief scientist at McAfee Labs.

IoT, or the Internet of Things, is made up of devices connected together. It involves extending the Internet connectivity beyond standard devices — such as laptops and smartphones — to any device or everyday object, like wearables.

And according to McAfee Labs this will be cryptohackers main next target.

However, Raj Samani also shared that crypto users — both individuals and businesses — can reduce their risks, minimize damages and protect themselves by implementing integrated cybersecurity systems.
