Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, has donated $300,000 in Ethereum tokens to three blockchain startups — Prysmatic Labs, ChainSafe Systems and Sigma Prime. Each of the startups received 1,000 ETH tokens (approximately $100,000).

All the projects are working to build Ethereum’s blockchain next iteration, Ethereum 2.0. Prysmatic Labs is working on the networks’ scalability, ChainSafe is developing an Ethereum 2.0 client and Sigma Prime is also developing a client called Lighthouse.

And apparently Buterin’s move came as an answer to a Twitter thread through which members of the Ethereum community argued about how its technology might be improved — with some mentioning lack of funding as the main reason for slow developments.

“It’s hardly enough to take the whole team full time with significant pay cuts.” — Tweeted Preston Van Loon, co-founder of Prysmatic Labs and a software engineer at Google.

And Vitalik Buterin simply replied:

“Just sent 1000 eth. Yolo [You Only Live Once].”

The current price of Ether, Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency, is about $109 at press time, as per CoinMarketCap price index.
