The U.S. regulatory institution, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) currently considers whether tracking transactions conducted using privacy coins is feasible or not, according to the document by the DHS Small Business Innovation Research Program.

The document is devoted to the case of using cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin for transactions and all the benefits and risks related to that kind of operations.

It was also noted by the document that there are both commercial and government uses for the cryptocurrency, the topic specifically focuses on finding a way to conduct forensic analysis on privacy-focused coins if they are used for criminal activity.

DHS also highlights that platforms such as zcash and monero emphasize privacy and anonymity as key features, making it difficult to determine where a transaction originates or how much is sent which can be used for criminal purposes.
