During a speech at the 87th Interpol General Assembly in Dubai, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has broke down on cryptos, calling up to collaborate in order to make clear that the rule of law can reach the entire blockchain, the official report states.
Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) is a global network of police task forces with HQ in France. It has its representatives in 190 countries all around the world. The main goal of Interpol is to promote the widest range of mutual collaboration between criminal police forces and to establish institutions likely to contribute to the prevention of international crime.
At the 87th Interpol General Assembly, Rosenstein noted the necessity of not allowing criminals in cyber space to hide behind cryptocurrencies. Though cryptos have “some legitimate status,” some bad actors use them “to fund crimes and hide traces,” according to Rosenstein.
“We must guard against abuses of digital currency,” claimed U.S. Deputy Attorney General.
Besides taught crypto regulation, Rosenstein reminded that all police forces around the world need to protect against abuses of encrypted communications.
Rosenstein is one of the “bitcoin haters” who see a global threat of crypto adoption. Previously, on July 13, 2018, it was Rosenstein who firstly announced that the Russian military intelligence during the 2016 U.S. presidential election used bitcoin as a way to fund their actions.
Earlier, the U.S. Department of Justice initiated a criminal investigation to determine whether the take-off of bitcoin at the end of last year was caused by manipulations related to the stablecoin issued by Tether.
