Venture investments in the Blockchain industry increased significantly in 2018 amid the disappearance of retail speculation.

According to a new report called Q3 State of Blockchains by European venture company Outlier Ventures, venture capitalists are particularly active at all stages of financing Blockchain startups this year, and 119 deals were made only in the third quarter of 2018.

In 2018 the volume of venture capital investments amounted to $2.85 billion, which was a record for all the years of the industry. The annual growth of investment in the industry amounted to 316% – in 2017 this figure was $900 million.

Aron Van Ammers, a founding partner of Outlier Ventures, commented:

“As we see the focus of early stage investment into tokens shift away from tech-savvy retail investors toward VCs, hedge funds and ultimately larger institutional investors, we’re seeing a large growth in new businesses and services enabling the larger institutional investors to enter the space.”

According to the report, the well-developed projects continue to receive funding, despite the fading retail interest in this area. The report also notes that this is a continuation of the professionalization of the Blockchain industry.

The study explained that ICO fees have decreased by 74% since the first quarter. In the third quarter of this year, projects received $1 billion, while startups funds in September amounted to $150 million.
