The official Twitter account of G Suite, a brand of cloud computing, productivity and collaboration tools, software and products developed by Google, was hacked by unknown attackers in order to promote a malicious bitcoin giveaway, according to the report of technology and business news outlet the Next Web.
Thus, The G Suite Twitter account was hacked and used for advertisement of bitcoin giveaway scam to the page’s more than 800,000 followers. Scammers message started with the announcement that Google’s G Suite now accepts cryptocurrency as a means of payment.
The tweet, which has since fortunately been deleted, encouraged users to send a small sum of cryptocurrency for a chance to enter a massive $60 million bitcoin giveaway (10,000 BTC). After receiving funds, the scammers merely leave naive users with empty pockets.
This accident appeared just several hours after the twitter hack of retail giant Target. In the case of the latter, hackers were using absolutely the same scheme which may indicate that both hackers attacks were made by the same group. For that moment, none of the companies gave official comments on the situation.
