Facebook executive and creator of the Oculus VR helmet, Palmer Lucky, was fired due to political views.

Palmer Lucky donated $10,000 to the anti-Hillary Clinton group at the height of the 2016 presidential competition. His donation caused a negative reaction from his colleagues. Six months later, he disappeared. Neither Facebook nor Lucky ever said why he left the company. When evidence of data privacy was made before Congress earlier this year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg denied that departure had anything to do with politics.

According to sources, Facebook executives, including Zuckerberg, put pressure on Lucky, offering to publicly express support for libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. According to people familiar with this issue, Lucky left the company and then was fired.

Later, Lucky explained that the reason for leaving was the support of Donald Trump and the furor that created his political beliefs on Facebook and Silicon Valley.
