The research division of the Hong Kong crypto exchange BitMEX has announced a new tool for tracking forks in bitcoin and bitcoin cash networks.

BitMEX describes its new resource ForkMonitor as a useful tool “for monitoring the situation during network upgrades (softforks or hardforks), as well as being potentially useful in helping to detect unintentional consensus bugs.” ForkMonitor is connected to several nodes in bitcoin and bitcoin cash Blockchains.

The BitMEX release is preceded by the upcoming hardfork of bitcoin cash, due to take place on November 15th. The exchange emphasizes that its new tool is currently focused on this event, but after it ends, the website will also focus on the bitcoin network.

BitMEX also notes that its tool can be useful for identifying consensus bugs, such as the vulnerability codenamed “CVE-2018-17144”, which was fixed by bitcoin developers in September.
