A team of scientist at the University of Hawaii Manoa stated that the power which is involved in Bitcoin mining may cause catastrophic climate change by 2033, The Telegraph reports.
The study estimates that if Bitcoin (BTC) is taken up at similar rates as in 2017 to other technologies, it’s likely to raise global temperature at least by two degrees within 22 years.
Co-author of study, Katie Taladay, said:
“Currently, the emissions from transportation, housing and food are considered the main contributors to ongoing climate change. This research illustrates that Bitcoin should be added to this list.”
Earlier in October, the analytical research agency Diar estimated that profitability of Bitcoin mining reached its minimum level since September, 2018.
