SC Johnson and Plastic Bank have agreed to direct efforts to deal with the global ocean crisis and open eight recycling centers in Indonesia to reduce plastic from the ocean and provide income to local families.

Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson, said:

“Our oceans need protection. I welcome the promise of the government of Indonesia to provide $1 billion a year to reduce plastic pollution. Business, government and NGOs should come together to tackle this important issue. It is imperative that we take action to help stop the increasing amount of plastic seeping into our oceans.”

SC Johnson has announced a partnership with Plastic Bank, one of the leading organizations fighting the global ocean plastic crisis. Plastic Bank is trying to increase recycling rates in poor communities in Indonesia and solve the problems of poverty.

Next year SC Johnson and Plastic Bank will open eight recycling centers in Indonesia. Local waste collectors can bring plastic to any center and receive digital tokens in return. Using Blockchain technology, they can use tokens to purchase the necessary goods and services.
