Bitmain, the cryptocurrency mining equipment company, is launching a new update for their Antminers which will increase mining effectiveness according to their yesterday’s blog post.
Bitmain created a monopoly in the Bitcoin mining industry with their mining pools Antpool and BTC.com. The Update ‘Overt AsicBoost’ will first affect Antminer S9s and spread to older versions as well.
Another mining pool, Slushpool, warned their users that the update is not compatible with their systems, leaving only Bitmains’ mining pools as a choice for miners.

While mining is becoming more difficult and less profitable for individual miners, it looks like Bitmain is “delving too greedily and too deep”.
