The very first reports of the crypto-payments on the Boring Company website for a “not-a-flamethrower” appeared on The Next Web. Later it turned out that it was a fraud.

The TNW message states:

“We’ve been had! The website showing cryptocurrency payment methods was a fake. We’re sorry, but sometimes we fall for internet trickery.”

Initially there was an option to buy a “not-a-flamethrower” via Coinbase technology for bitcoin (BTC), ethereum (ETH), litecoin (LTC), and bitcoin cash (BCH).

It’s still unknown how many products from the fake website were peddled.

At the time of writing, a scam website TheBoringFlamethrower.com is still working, though crypto methods of payment were removed.

The Boring Company is an infrastructure and tunnel construction company founded by Elon Musk in 2016.

Earlier Elon Musk appealed to the creator of Dogecoin cryptocurrency, Jackson Palmer, with a request to come up with a way to deal with crypto fraud on Twitter.
